Magann Dykema Attends National Summer Transportation Institute at Michigan Tech

2013 Aug 5

Magann Dykema of Muskegon took part in the two-week-long National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) held on the campus of Michigan Technological University recently.

NSTI students took part in a competitive application process, with only the most promising future scientists and engineers being selected for the program. All participants were awarded a $2,000 scholarship.

During the institute, 29 high school students from five states learned about airplanes, trains, ships and automobiles through hands-on activities and group projects. Students toured the Mackinac Bride Authority and got behind-the-scenes looks at one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Students also visited the Sault Locks to learn firsthand about the world's largest waterway traffic system.

Students also got a taste of college life during the program by spending two weeks living in Michigan Tech's residence halls, eating in the dining halls, exploring campus, and meeting diverse peers.
