Michigan Tech Nominates Sarah Mets of Washington Township for Goldwater Scholarship

Michigan Technological University has nominated Sarah Mets, a Washington Township resident and graduate of Romeo High School, for a 2012 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.

Goldwater Scholarships are among the most prestigious awards available for US undergraduates in science and engineering. Recipients receive up to $7,500 to cover eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Students submit research proposals as part of the application process.

A junior majoring in biological sciences, she is studying centrosome assembly in the nematode C. elegans, investigating the genes involved in centrosome duplication. Centrosomes are organs in cells that are responsible for a number of cellular processes.

Mets is the daughter of Kevin and Leanne Mets of Washington Township.
