Sarah Ochs and Nathan Sturos Named Tidwell Outstanding Woman and Man of the Year

2013 May 13

Michigan Technological University's School of Business and Economics has named its 2012-13 Sam Tidwell Outstanding Woman and Man in Business.

Among this year's recipients are Sarah Ochs from Wausau.

Sara Ochs, a senior marketing major, will graduate in December 2013. She has been on the Dean's List and has been an intern with Caterpillar, Mercury Marine, and Graebel Van Lines. She has been heavily involved with DECA-the student marketing organization-serving as president, and she has also been part of the American Marketing Association.

Ochs has been a President's Leadership Award nominee and, under her guidance, DECA was nominated for Student Organization of the Year. She has also been active on the Dean's Student Advisory Council and with Junior Achievement.

"Sara Ochs is very deserving of the Outstanding Woman in Business Award," said Dean Gene Klippel. "As a founding member of the DECA, she has proven to be a great leader within our school. Using her networking skills at the career fair, Sara has been very successful in obtaining internships, one of which could lead to a job after graduation. We are thrilled with all that she has been able to accomplish in her time at Michigan Tech."

Nathan Sturos is an accounting and finance dual major from Calumet, Mich. with a 3.85 GPA, and is due to graduate in May 2014. He was a founding member of the Finance Club and has served as president and treasurer. He also was a member of the Dean's Student Advisory Committee, as freshman representing the Entrepreneur's Club. He has been involved with Kappa Sigma Iota Accounting Club and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant program.

Recently, Sturos has joined of the Applied Portfolio Management Program, investing real money in the stock market, and has been inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society.

"Growing up as a Calumet native, Nathan Sturos has had a lot of exposure to Michigan Tech," Klippel said. "Hard work and self-motivation have contributed to his success as a student. We are confident that Nathan will be successful in whatever endeavors he pursues and look forward to witnessing his continued success as the Outstanding Man in Business.

Ochs and Sturos will each receive $500 as part of the award.
