South Lyon native Amanda Halonen of Michigan Tech women's track and field Team Receives GLIAC Academic Excellence Award

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its spring 2011 Academic Excellence Awards, and Amanda Halonen of Michigan Tech's women's track and field team has been honored.

Halonen, a engineering major from South Lyon was one of 17 Michigan Tech student-athletes to earn Academic Excellence Awards for the spring semester.

To be eligible for academic excellence status, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5-4.0 on a 4.0 scale and can not be a freshman or first-year transfer.

Michigan Tech sponsors 14 intercollegiate athletic programs-NCAA Division I men's ice hockey and NCAA Division II teams in football; men's and women's basketball, cross country, football, tennis, Nordic skiing, and track and field; and women's soccer and volleyball.
